It's important, I believe, to word your own letter when writing to Congress,
rather than simply copy and paste someone else's words. Logic dictates
that originally worded messages indicate a thinking letter writer and that
always worries our esteemed congressional representatives.
Bad spelling, poor gramamr, etc. are NOT important. Individual,
original words ARE.
I've pasted in two example below. The first is the default message located
in the message box from the following web site http://www.voice4change.org/stories/mailsenate.asp
where you will go to send your message to every member of the US Senate.
The second message is my own which I sent this morning . Rearrange these
words and throw in a few thoughts of your own, but don't be nasty or use
crude language. Write calmly and express your feelings with simple honesty.
Hot heads are ignored, while calm, polite people are taken seriously.
Dear Senator,
The current rush to war with Iraq concerns me deeply. I do not condone
the actions of Saddam Hussein, but the people of Iraq do not deserve to
suffer more as a result of his actions.
If we go to war with Iraq, once again the world will see the United
States as a perpetrator of violence and hate. We will be seen in the world
community as a "bully" a Rogue State.
Why Now?
What has changed since 1991?
What has Iraq done to threaten its neighbors since 1991?
Can we not re-visit this issue after the United Nations attempts to
act?
Where is the imminent danger?
These unanswered questions lead me to call on you to take the following
actions this week in the Unite States Senate:
1. Support any effort to delay the vote i.e. Filibuster, Cloture motion.
2. Vote YES on the Levin Resolution
3. Vote NO on the Lieberman-Bayh sponsored Resolution even if amended
by Biden-Lugar
Respectfully Submitted,
Name
Address (optional)
Phone Number (optional)
Dear Senator,
The Bush Team has presented no credible evidence to support going
to war against Iraq.
Enough innocent people have already died in Iraq since 1991. We don't
need another half a million dead people to die for a completely contrived,
trumped-up excuse for war.
Saddam does not present any greater threat to America today than he
did after the Gulf War.
The antiwar arguments put forth by Dennis Kucinich and Scott Ritter
are sound, reasonable, and legitimate. The trumped up nonsense put out
by the Bush Team is an insult to the nation's intelligence.
When does the Senate begin representing the interests of the American
people?
The American people do not support a war with Iraq.
I strongly urge you to:
1. Support any effort to delay the vote
2. Vote YES on the Levin Resolution
3. Vote NO on the Lieberman-Bayh sponsored Resolution even if amended
by Biden-Lugar
