The Truth About the Drug Companies promises to be
an extremely interesting book. A lengthy, referenced review written by the
author herself can be found at the following web page: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/17244
The book itself is not out yet but the review gives a good
idea of why the financial empire of big pharma may be about to collapse.

Dear Josef,
I just quickly skimmed through the review. This is peculiar at best, and
there is a conspiracy afoot at worst. Marcia Angell is
an infamous chemical and drug company sypathizer. She was implicated in
some very dirty dealings with W.R. Grace and some drug companies several
years ago when she was editor of the New England Journal of Medicine
(NEJM) - the article is on my website:
http://www.cqs.com/nejm.htm, written by a couple of star investigative
reporters. She wrote an entire *book* (Science on Trial) which
denounced scientists and toxicologists who connected disease with industrial
chemicals and environmental degradation (referring to it as "junk science"),
and vilified the lawyers who sued companies who caused chemical injury.
Note also that this new book probably does *not* contain the truth about
the drug companies. Even in her own review she never states that the basis
of the drug company profit system is fraudulent (based on lifetime use of
toxic, palliative drugs that make you sicker or eventually kill you rather
than curing disease), but rather that their greed has just gone out of control.
She is an odd duck, criticizing the people she has so staunchly defended
and schemed for in the past, but keeping her foot in their door. If I thought
conspiratorially about it, I would say that her book was produced to *obfuscate*
the real truth about the fraudulent nature of the drug industry that is
being discussed openly by Rath and others.
Regards
Jonathan

Very interesting Jonathan,
I was indeed missing any reference to the lack of workability
of pharmaceutical drugs in Angell's article, but did not put a lot of weight
on it.
Coming to think of it, it might well be that this book (which
is being promoted widely, it seems, even before coming out) is going to
be an attempt at damage control, initiated by the pharmaceutical interests.
Seeing that big pharma is under heavy attack, the book criticizes
the financial practices - comparatively lightly slapping some fingers -
and advocates certain reforms, without however arriving at the core of the
problem - that the "remedies" of that industry are actually poisoning
people to death...
Thanks for pointing it out.
Kind regards
Josef
