Trader Joe's Secrecy is much more about Corporate Shame than about Corporate Pride... Call Trader Joe's Today, ask: "Why Aren’t Your 3rd-Party Food Pesticide Residue Testing Results Made Public, online?" Where are Trader Joe's Pesticide Tests from an Independent Third-Party Laboratory, where are the publicly published 'organic food' and pesticide test results? There are currently 474 locations of secretive, misleading and obfuscating Trader Joe's in the U.S. and 9,221 Aldi's locations World Wide. Regarding pesticides residues testing of both GMO and Non-GMO foods, both Trader Joe's and Aldi's ask us for our blind trust, but refuse to make food pesticide test results public information, online. Over 1 billion pounds of pesticides are used in the United States each year and approximately 5.6 billion pounds are used worldwide. No mass food market is somehow "magically exempt" from 1 billion domestic or 5.6 billion global pounds of pesticides; particularly not a "Joe's" defacto subsidiary of Conagra/RalCorp.
The World Health Organization reports 220,000 people die every year worldwide because of pesticide poisoning. That number would only be acute poisonings, most certainly does not account for chronic poisonings. According to wecf.eu, pesticides and harmful chemicals cause more than 900,000 deaths annually. (Source). In Africa consequences of the use of pesticides constitute third largest health cost after HIV/AIDS and malaria. If there was a way to accurately track chronic pesticide poisonings, the 900,000 pesticide deaths annually would be a much, much higher number. Chronic poisoning is not harmless; chronic poisoning is difficult to detect, track and counteract medically. Most people, domestically and globally are unaware that they are bioaccumalating and biomagnifying victims. As top predators, all the "junk" ends up in our bodies. Think of your body as a large sponge, absorbing microgram amounts of pesticides from your overall diet daily. Garbage in is greater than garbage out over the course of a lifetime.
Trader Joe's, repeatedly, asks us for our "blind trust", so long as we keep eating Trader Joe's Organic Brown Arsenic Rice Pasta Fusilli… Trust us, it is all Non-GMO, "only unlabeled". Trust us, it is just Arsenic Rice Pasta... Just blindly trust us, "The Joe", while we pontificate with the words "food safety" while having repeated E. coli, Salmonella food poisonings. Trust us, what is a little Trader Joe's HUS (hemolytic uremic syndrome) between friends?
Remember the movie "A Few Good Men", Colonel Jessup in Court? "You can't handle the truth!". The preceding link will take you to every known or suspected cancer-causer ever sprayed on human food! Carcinogenic Chemicals that were or still are sprayed on food, fiber and plantation agricultural sites.
Many bloggers write along these lines: Does Trader Joe's sell GMOs, are their "organics" tainted with GMOs, GMOs are evil, weep gnash teeth the sky is falling… This article differs, greatly. GMOs are new and untested, unproven either as safe or unsafe. But Agent Orange (which breaks down to Dioxin) is proven unsafe. Given a choice between Monsanto's Agent Orange Corn (Monsanto's Enlist ® Corn) and Corn not soaked with 2,4-D, I'd rather eat the non-2,4-D corn… Numerous, ignorant bloggers writing, woo, GMOs!, me too, look I have a blog and I eat food, is inane and societally ineffectual. Food Safety/Food Health Bloggers are formulaic and a bit clueless (they frequently plagiarize other's mistakes on pesticides), generally. "Genetically Modified Organisms are devilishly evil, empirically evil, I cannot tell you why, they just are, the other Food Health bloggers who have zero agricultural experience and pesticide naïveté said so". But if you the public demand the Pesticide Test Results on all of the PAN Dirty Dozen Pesticide Lists, actual test results printed out in your hand… …then you will at least have an idea how much of the PAN Dirty Dozen Pesticides go through your gut. It is scientific, it is hard evidence. It is not "the sky is falling, Genetically Engineered Food, the devil!" Follow the pesticides, demand test results, do not get Salmonella, etc., from "Ready Packed" death in a baggie. On Genetically Engineered Food (GMO's), just saying GMO's are evil is not scientific. Why are they evil? Glyphosate interrupts your gut bacteria’s (shikimate pathway) metabolic pathways the same way it does a plant’s. Roundup ready food crops come to our dinner plate replete with Roundup®, Roundup® kills beneficial gut bacteria in your stomach. Now, that is evil, but it is also scientifically provable.
Traitor Joe Recall, from TraderJoes.com:
We have been alerted by our supplier (Caito Foods) that the following products – sold only in our IOWA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, KANSAS, KENTUCKY, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEBRASKA, OHIO, & WISCONSIN stores – with date codes BEST BY: 07/21/18 through 07/23/18 may have been made with romaine lettuce that had the potential to be contaminated with Cyclospora:
Trader Joe’s Tarragon Chicken Salad Wrap (SKU#97031-51775MW)
Trader Giotto’s Caesar Salad with Chicken (SKU#06832-51775MW)
Trader Ming’s Chinese Inspired Salad with Chicken (SKU#65234-51775MW)Once again, Trader Joe’s and Walgreens share the same tainted food (a stomach parasite, Cyclospora) food recall. Salads and Wraps from Trader Joe's, Kroger and Walgreens Are Being Recalled Due to Parasite, last week of July/First week of August 2018. In the words of pressible.org: Trader Joe’s... No surprises that this highly secretive company can be shown to be playing a deceptive game with facts, evasion and clever wordplay. (Italics mine)
GMO's and Trader Joe's are neither Bhophal India 15,000 Dead Company Pesticide Accident nor are they "organic". But the in-between reality of all food in the U.S.A. is that about 70% of it tests positive for between 1-23 different pesticide residues.
I urge you, the reader, to follow the Pesticides, Pesticide Residue testing and to avoid Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria and E. coli tainted foods. Trader Joe's has had numerous E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria recalls. Pesticides and Food Poisoning are all real, proven, indisputable dangers. It is deeply disturbing that the Pesticide Manufacturers Dow, Dupont, Bayer, BASF, Syngenta and Monsanto are using the GMO-eating-public as lab rats to determine if Genetically Engineered Food (GMOs) are safe or unsafe... It is amoral that these Pesticide Companies who patent life itself (food monopolies) use all of us as their lab rats. The six-biggest pesticide manufacturers on Earth have ongoing monopolies on food crop seed, as well as the Bayer, Syngenta, Dow, Dupont, BASF and Monsanto War on Bees.
Food Bloggers and Commentators have a boring thread going all over the Internet, interspersed with Shill/Troll/Apologist Propaganda. Blogger A: The food crops in the photo are GMO. Blogger B: The food crops in the photo are Non-GMO. Shill/Troll/Apologist C: I don't think they are really soaking the food crops; it is more of a very light spritz. Shill/Troll/Apologist D: A child would have to eat 24,000 baskets of Strawberries to come to any "harm", it is just "harmless" pesticide residue. What is "harmless" about all contaminated wells, the cancers, ADD/ADHD/Autism in our society? "Harmless?" If you want to know The Truth, start with the Insecticide & Carcinogen Search... Follow this pesticide database link, go to "Chemical Category Search" and (for instance) select "Known Carcinogen" and "Herbicides" and click on "Search". Ditto with Insecticides.Trader Joes 'name-brand' products, for the most part, are not organic! There are some exceptions, but the TJ-employees verbal-myth that "all TJ's name-brand products are organic" is shrewd, extremely deceiving marketing hubris! Such 'verbal contracts' are *all-natural bull*...
Pesticides can be grouped into categories and sub-categories:
- Insecticides
- Herbicides
- Rodenticides
- Bacteriacides
- Fungicides
- Larvicides
- Fumigants
When someone lists a pesticide by brand name, look up the active ingredient and look up two things: 1) the LD50; and 2) Whether or not it is a known carcinogen. Low LD50 pesticides and known carcinogens are what we wish to cut out of all of our diets, farms and landscapes. Two of the most common pesticide residues in food are Malathion and Chlorpyrifos. Pesticide advocates (lobbyists on K-Street) like to point out the low toxicity (high LD50 number). But Malathion and Chlorpyrifos residues tend to get stored in people's body fat. Pregnant women, nursing mothers, women of child-bearing age, women raising rapidly-growing children and teens should be particularly interested in Malathion and Chlorpyrifos and other pesticide residues in Trader Joe's food. GMO chemicals are even found in rainwater, such chemicals as: atrazine, metolachlor, propanil and gyphosate's derivative, AMPA.
One could write a very long article about the morality and Global environmental consequences of GMOs/Factory Farm Techniques.
Please be sure to see both "Sources:" and "Additional Sources:" below, so that you understand your Trader Joe's Trader Joe's: Pesticides Residues GMO's E. coli Listeria Campylobacter jejuni Salmonella Antibiotics Glass & Plastic Shards Arsenic Wines Arsenic Rice Palm Oil Pesticide Tea profound risks… It is worth noting that when Walmart has an E. coli O157:H7 recall on bagged salad, Trader Joe's has an E. coli O157:H7 recall on bagged salad. When Safeway recalls Listeria Peanut Butter, Trader Joe's recalls Listeria Peanut Butter. There is a distinct pattern in the Trader Joe's recall headlines, do you see it: "7 Ton Hummus Recall from Trader Joe’s, Target."? Among the sources below are links to recalls / articles and/or whistle-blowers stories. The news headline 'Vegetables sold at Albertsons, Walmart, Trader Joe's part of massive listeria recall'… tells us Trader Joe's veggies are from the same factory farms as Albertsons and Walmart... The "sources" links at the bottom, or even just skim reading said sources on the bottom of this page is a very different picture than a Hawaiian Shirt parroting the "all-natural" propaganda...One of my oldest friends worked for Trader Joe’s for many years to put himself through college. If you ask a Trader Joes employee if the Corn Chips are GMO, you will be told, “our Corn chips are sourced from ‘all natural ingredients’, they are not GMO". There is an unspoken implication (all-natural, Non-GMO) that small, organic family farms grew the Corn Chips on all-organic Corn Chip vines. 474 stores in 43 states and Washington, D.C., there is only one “small, organic” ‘family farm’ with enough ‘corn-chip vines’ to fill all of those shelves: ConAgra owned RalCorp.
from https://permaculturenews.org/2013/04/22/stunning-difference-of-gm-from-non-gm-corn/
"The GM corn was grown in a field that has been no-till, continuous GM corn (Roundup Ready) for 5-10 years and with a glyphosate herbicide weed control regime for all of the 10 years. The Non-GM corn has not had glyphosate (or Roundup) applied to the field for at least five years. The GM corn test weight was 57.5 lb; and non-GMCorn test weight 61.5 lb.
As Zen Honeycutt, who posted the report commented, glyphosate, shown to be toxic at 1 ppm, is present at 13 ppm in the GM corn. Similarly, formaldehyde at 200 ppm is 200 times the level known to be toxic in animals.
The GM corn was also severely depleted in essential minerals: 14 ppm vs 130 ppm calcium; 2 ppm vs 113 ppm of magnesium; 2 ppm vs 14 ppm of manganese; 3 ppm vs 44 ppm of phosphate; 3 ppm vs 42 ppm of sulphur, and so on." The GM corn bushels weigh less, they are 4-pounds of minerals and vitamins lighter, so much for the Pro-GMO-inept-argument "that GMO's are the same food". A bushell of corn that weighs 4-pounds less via less vitamins and minerals is not "the same food"... (Italics mine). This broaches the subject of "GMO Substantial Equivalency Failure Jeffrey Smith".My Trader Joes employee / friend absolutely detests Trader Joes. We have had several discussions about “all-naturally sourced” products. Everything ConAgra sells are “all-natural foods” (it is a nonsense term, totally ambivalent). Everything Trader Joe’s sells are “all-natural”. The U.S. FDA has not developed any rules or regulations on the defining features of what qualifies a product as "natural." Trader Joes ConAgra Oats, which have been fumigated with Phosphine Gas, are “all-natural”. People think of oats as "health food," not realizing that from farm to cereal bowl, oats have become problematic to human health...
So what makes Trader Joe’s food any different than other foods? Simple, it is RalCorp (ConAgra), Snyder’s-Lance, Pepsi, Tyson Foods, Cargill, Stacey’s, Amy’s, Annie’s, Tate’s Bake Shop, Snack Factory, Tribe Mediterranean Foods, and Smithfield Farms foods in Trader Joe's/Artsy wrappers. The wrappers are different, as well as the Trader Joe's employees’ assurances that the food is, err 'natural'… U.S. FDA has not developed any rules or regulations on the defining features of what qualifies a product as "natural."
Numerous articles and petitions asking Trader Joe's to stop selling CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation) meat with drugs (Antibiotics) have now been ignored for years, except for pithy euphemisms. People want clean Anti-biotic-free meat, not pithy excuses and empty promises.
The trouble with asking, “does Trader Joe’s sell GMO’s” and then stating, “GMO’s are evil, the sky is falling!” is it skips the salient points:
- · GMO’s are not the sole danger; GMO foods are usually lugubriously pesticide soaked, full of dangerous (chronic) residues.
- · GMO and Non-GMO factory farm foods, rather than being “all-natural” are often repeatedly soaked with isopropylamine salt of glyphosate, 2,4-D, 2,4,5-TP (aka "Agent Orange", breaks down into Dioxin), Diazinon, Carbaryl, etc., etc. Herbicides, Fungicides, Insecticides, Miticides and Rodenticides are our way of life in America and we export our poisons Globally. Both Domestic and Imported Foods have pesticide residues.
- · Along with wheat and oats, glyphosate is used to desiccate a wide range of other food crops including lentils, peas, non-GMO soybeans, corn, flax, rye, triticale, buckwheat, millet, canola, sugar beets, and potatoes. Sunflowers may also be treated pre-harvest with glyphosate, according to the National Sunflower Association.
- · Trader Joe's staff verbally insinuate everything in the store "is all naturally sourced"; this ongoing "verbal contract" implies that Trader Joe's stores are absent of GMOs and pesticide residues. But what is it Trader Joe's employees are not saying about pesticide residues? Fetuses, infants, growing children, pregnant and nursing mothers, and women of childbearing age are most at risk for adverse health outcomes from exposure to pesticides residues.
- · Unlike the (erroneous) implication(s) in numerous articles, it is not that you take a bite of GMO/BT Corn and drop dead; rather …you take thousands, millions of bites of pesticide residue Ralcorp/Trader Joes food and end up with chronic pesticide poisoning health problems.
- · Is RalCorp Trader Joe’s main supplier, or is Trader Joes simply a trendy defacto subsidiary of RalCorp (owned by Conagra)?
Are there pesticide residues in Trader Joes food (isopropylamine salt of glyphosate, Carbaryl, Acephate, Methyl Parathion, et al)? Pesticide residues cause ADD, ADHD and Autism in children, and Trader Joe's processed foods and produce ARE from factory farms that use pesticide “products” on their bloviated factory farms. Factory farms produce ubiquitous Corn, Soy (https://www.boost-your-low-testosterone.com/soy-isoflavones-testosterone-production-in-men.htmlSoy-Boys, Female health and weight problems) and Canola foods: Hog, Cow and Chicken feed, sold to us in "Boutique Health Food" stores. Corn, Soy, Wheat, Oats, Alfalfa and Rice are highly suspect as Atrazine Herbicide-contaminated foods and animal feeds. It is a given that 80-90% of Wheat, Corn, Alfalfa, Soy, Oats and Rice are Glyphosate-contaminated.
Emergency! Pathogen New to Science Found in Roundup Ready GM Food Crops? The bottom line is where are Trader Joe’s 3rd-party pesticide residue test results? No store chain sells 100% pesticide-residue-free food, and neither does Trader Joes. How much Glyphosate (listed as a known carcinogen in California) is in Trader Joe’s Alfalfa (Meat), Corn, Soy, Wheat, Oats, Rice, canned and packaged (frozen and boxed/canned) foods and produce? What other pesticide residues are in Trader Joe’s food, who has been doing the 3rd-party testing and where are the results? Surely a thriving concern who claims their products are “all-naturally-sourced” has a long history of conducting pesticide-residue/food-safety tests on all their products, so “where’s the beef”?
It is imperative to understand the difference between Acute and Chronic Pesticide Poisoning:
Example One: A Farm Pest Control Operator loads his spray rig without a respirator and inhales Simazine Dust; he is rushed to emergency with Acute Poisoning.
Example Two: You shop in a "Boutique" factory-farm supermarket and you buy lettuce washed and rinsed in water from a Simazine-Contaminated Water-Well. You keep buying and eating lettuce containing tiny, microscopic amounts of Simazine for years. Your Chronic Pesticide Poisoning bowel cancer develops and your doctor probably blames "red-meat".
In both examples, it is not a GMO-gene-splice that gets you; rather it is a pesticide. In example two above, your Boutique "all-naturally-sourced" vendor has a moral and legal obligation to protect you from high-levels of any and all pesticides in your food. Since you are paying extra for the food, you deserve to see their pesticide 3rd-party test records from, say, the past 10-years Posted Online…
It is also important to realize both GMO and Non-GMO produce contain Pesticide Residue. Blog-Commentators asking "if Trader Joe's sells GMOs and if Trader Joe's foods contain Pesticide Residues in their articles is inane.. "If" articles are extremely ill informed, the wrong questions; instead ask how much pesticide residue? Anything from overseas probably has high Pesticide Residues, GMO, or not. It is a rock and a hard spot, produce and grain are required by us all in our diets; produce and grains are also bioaccumulation magnets for sprayed pesticides ending up in our diets...Since France and Russia banned GMOs (both as food crops and as food imports), incidences of many modern diseases such as diabetes, digestive disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, colitis, autism spectrum disorders (ASD) (ADD), autoimmune diseases, sexual dysfunction, sterility, asthma, COPD and obesity have declined. The biotech / GMO / GE firms love the words "substantially equivalent, substantial equivalency," etc.
Most Trader Joe's products are very likely to contain Pesticide Residues. A good rule of thumb is figure 7 of every 10 (70%) of all food at Trader Joe's has measurable Pesticide Residues. Strawberries test with up to 22 pesticides. Over 98% of strawberries, spinach, grapes, nectarines, peaches, apples and cherries test positive for at least one pesticide residue. The notion that Trader Joe's is "exempt" is just marketing brainwash hubris. "All-Natural Goodness," as the Hawaiian Shirts like to parrot.
There are two "dirty dozens", one is produce the other pesticide... 2018 dirty dozen pesticide residue produce items are: Strawberries, Spinach, Grapes, Apples, Nectarines, Potatoes, Celery, Tomatoes, Pears, Cherries and Peaches. Strawberries and Spinach top the list as the most polluted with pesticides. The PAN Dirty Dozen Pesticides are (alphabetized): 2,4,5-T; Aldicarb; Aldrin; Atrazine; Chlorobenzilate; Chlordane; Chlordimeform; DBCP; DDT; Dieldrin; EDB; Endrin; Heptachlor; HCH; Lindane; Methyl Parathion; Paraquat; Parathion; Pentachlorophenol; Toxaphene. Much more pesticide reading here.
The ubiquitous herbicide Atrazine is an Endocrine Disruptor, is linked to reproductive effects including increased risk of miscarriage, reduced male fertility, low birth weight, increased chance of any birth defect, and higher incidence of abdominal defects. Atrazine turns male frogs into female frogs, replete with copulating like a female, laying eggs like a female, but this in genetically male frogs... Atrazine is bad stuff. Atrazine exposure has been linked to elevated risk of breast and prostate cancer. The recent President's Cancer Panel Report notes that Atrazine has possible carcinogenic properties. In response to concerns, the U.S. EPA is currently re-evaluating Atrazine's carcinogenic potential.Bagged veggies, in the cellophane would have more pesticide residues, generally and are older (staler, less vitamins). Those "ready" bagged vegetables are E-Coli O157:H7 (Escherichia coli O157:H7) Class-Action Lawsuits waiting to happen (the cello-wraps are frequent recalls for food-diseases). Trader Joe's has a track-record of E-Coli O157:H7 outbreaks, a virulent, deadly disease. Those Hawaiian-Shirted Sycophants had no clue how many people they were making sick.
From Madronna Holden, Trader Joe's heavy-metal(s) tainted 'candy':

Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Bar – Toffee With Walnuts and Pecans 70% cacao: Lead;
Trader Joe’s Pound Plus Dark Chocolate: Lead;
Trader Joe’s Pound Plus, 72% Cacao Dark Chocolate: Lead;
Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate 73% Cacao Super Dark: Lead & Cadmium;
Trader Joe’s The Dark Chocolate Lover’s Chocolate Bar (85% cacao): Lead & CadmiumDespite the best attempts to appear "family", small and "organic", many of the "health food" items in Trader Joe's are factory/machine produced by Snyder’s-Lance, Pepsi, Tate’s Bake Shop, Snack Factory, Tribe Mediterranean Foods, Annie’s, Stacey’s, Amy’s, Tasty Bite, ConAgra and RalCorp Keep in mind, Trader Joe's "own-label" products are 'knock-offs' from larger corporations; you are what you eat! The hummus brands testing positive for glyphosate residue were Kirkland Signature, Sabra, Cedar’s, Simply Balanced, Trader Joe’s, Sadaf, and Hope. .
Some of the produce and processed foods in Trader Joe's contain Isopropylamine Salt of Glyphosate (trade name Roundup) and the wines contain Arsenic. Legally, Trader Joe's is therefore required in California to have a Proposition 65 Warning posted in conspicuous view:
WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
I have never seen such a signage warning in a Trader Joes in California; but then again, Trader Joe's is about secrecy, hiding their shame. Trader Joe's hypocrisy seems to know no bounds… Trader Joe's pretends to be "green", to pretend to be "bastions of environmental stewardship". So why are their processed foods filled with (collectively) tons of Palm Oil? See the video documentary, Greasy Palms and ask yourself why would Trader Joe's be secretive about its Palm Oil? In the video, pay attention to all the content pertaining to pesticides and who is doing the pesticide work. Trader Joe's "Gyoza" Dough: Unbleached Wheat Flour, Tapioca Starch, Water, Palm Oil… Trader Joe's cookies, known as "Joe Joe's": Sugar, Unbleached Enriched Wheat Flour, Palm Oil…
Must see Palm Oil video documentary. One of the women in the video describes being a pesticide-slave-worker with no formal training. It is entirely likely she suffers bouts of mild to moderate acute poisoning and ongoing chronic poisoning. Think no clear goggles, no rubber gloves, no rubber boots, no respirator mask (no NIOSH respirator cartridges) and no chemical-resistant Tyvek jumpsuit. Even the milder "Caution" pesticides can be fatal if she sleeps in contaminated clothes, works in the same unwashed clothes while spraying 7 days a week. In the Third World (and the U.S.) this scenario occurs; it is also likely that she uses the pesticides from the Pan Dirty-Dozen Pesticide List.
From "http://www.worldstopexports.com/palm-oil-exports-by-country/":
- Indonesia: US$14.4 billion (51.7% of total palm oil exports)
- Malaysia: $9.1 billion (32.6%)
- Netherlands: $1.1 billion (3.9%)
- Papua New Guinea: $386.2 million (1.4%)
- Guatemala: $376.2 million (1.4%)
- Germany: $357.6 million (1.3%)
- Honduras: $270.2 million (1%)
- Colombia: $245.5 million (0.9%)
- Ecuador: $228.2 million (0.8%)
- Niger: $129.8 million (0.5%)
- Costa Rica: $101.5 million (0.4%)
- Denmark: $99.5 million (0.4%)
- Italy: $98.8 million (0.4%)
- United Arab Emirates: $90.4 million (0.3%)
- United States: $85.2 million (0.3%)
The short, 18-minute video above gives you an idea of the environmental, civil rights of indigenous peoples’ havoc wreaked by Palm Oil. But Trader Joe's is so proud of their Palm Oil suppliers they shroud them in a sea of mystery. Are there pesticide residues in the Trader Joe's products containing Palm-Oil?
The video above also outlines the social injustice, lawlessness and ill-health of those robbed of their lands and forced into slave-conditions growing "sustainable Palm-oil". Victims include: Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, Ecuador, Niger and Costa Rica. The slave-workers are forced to use the herbicide Paraquat; Paraquat is one of the most poisonous, destructive ag chemicals ever developed. Does Trader Joe's even bother to 3rd-party test for Paraquat in its "sustainable Palm Oil" (there is no such thing, at this time). Paraquat Cl's LD50: The oral LD50 of the dichloride form of paraquat is 196 mg/kg in mice, 50 mg/kg in monkeys, and 48 mg/kg in cats. Really nasty stuff. This is where "Foodbabe" should be having a fit, or a Palm Oil Kit Kat bar… I'm sorry, but she lost me when she wrote about Pyrethroids as if they were Paraquat or Methyl Parathion.
Vani Hari (aka "the Food Babe"), please write about the "Dirty Dozen Pesticides" (not vegetables, but the chemicals: 2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid, Methyl Parathion, et al); the Pan Dirty-Dozen Pesticide List. Just fyi, the sky has been falling since World War II and Vietnam; Dow, Dupont and Monsanto. Read Johnny O'Donnell's (Playboy) Agent Orange/Agent Blue article, you did not just invent the wheel, Vani. You could make it a Baker's dozen if you Yandexed, "DOW Enlist Duo®". Look it up in the English version of Metager, also. Your articles are a disservice, in the sense you are not writing about Aldicarb (Temik) Watermelons in 1985 California, but you carry on like you are… It is patently obvious you have never attended a Pesticide class or course, or read many MSDS's.
You, the public can exercise your free-speech with your purses and wallets. Look at the labels in Trader Joe's, when you see "Palm Oil", read it as "Conflict/Pesticide Palm Oil". Please watch the two videos and you will understand why Joe is so silent and secretive... You will find Conflict/Pesticide Palm Oil in the Cookies/Candy aisle, in the boxed foods, bagged foods and microwavable entree sections of Trader Joe's "health boutique". You can also find Conflict/Pesticide Palm Oil in Joe's soaps and cosmetic products. Palm Oil is an obesity/diabetes food (Saturated Fat, empty non-vitamin "food", raises body fat, raises bad cholesterol but provides no vitamins). You may frequently find Palm Oil in: Instant Pastas/Noodles, Pizzas, Bread, Margarines, Crisps, Crackers, Cookies, "Vegan" Cheeses, Ice Cream, Microwaveable Popcorn, Frozen Entrees, Soaps and Cosmetics.
More IMF Business Model Conflict Palm Oil: Land Robbery, Clear-Cut Logging, Burn, Plant African Oil Palms (Bad Cholesterol, Bad Fat). Force Workers to abuse pesticides with no worker safety clothing, no respirators. Kill off wildlife, fish, and keep robbing more land until indiginous people are forced to buy food at the company store…

Third World Pesticide Workers spraying food and feed with either 'improvised' (raincoats) or no protective gear at all. Apologists call their pesticide abuse "harmless pesticide residue". Those without protective gear are shortening their lives; where is the "harmlessness"? About 1977, pesticide proponents boosted Monsanto Roundup® as "nearly harmless", "low-toxicity" and "bio-degradable". It took 40 years for the public to learn that Roundup® (isopropylamine salt of glyphosate) has persistent, troublesome residue linked to cancer. California and the World Health Organization list Glyphosate as a known carcinogen, after nearly 40 years of boosterism as "harmless". Note: The more careless the Pesticide Workers (no protective gear, none whatsoever), the more likely it is that the mixer/loader doubled, tripled, etc., the pesticide to water ratio… This results in excessive food residues (often there is more than one pesticide in the mixture). If the fungicides and insecticides are doubled, there is an adverse "cubed" toxicity effect human health. Who are Trader Joe's 3rd Party Pesticide Residue Testers?
Somehow, Trader Joe's Hawaiian Shirts and food bloggers have started an urban Internet "myth" that all Trader Joe's "brand-name" products are "Organic" and therefore "Pesticide-Free".
Together, certified organic food cropland and pasture accounted for about 0.6 percent of the U.S. total farmland in 2011. Only a small percentage of the top U.S. field crops — corn (0.3 percent), soybeans (0.2 percent), and wheat (0.6 percent)—were grown under certified organic farming systems as of Sep 22, 2016 ~ source: ers.usda.gov. In 2011, the USDA conducted a series of Glyphosate tests on 300 soybean samples, and found that 271 contained Glyphosate residues. Remember, isopropylamine salt of glyphosate is listed by California and the World Health Organization as a known carcinogen. Trader Joe's own-label-products are full of soy. Where are Trader Joe's pesticide test results? Also, women in particular are at an increased risk from the many hormone-disrupting substances found in soy phytosterols. Soy is also not doing men any favors.
So, if 0.6% of all U.S. food crops (and that 0.6% being largely corn, soybeans and wheat), then that would therefore leave a remainder (99.4%) of all crops in the U.S. as Non-Organic (potential or probable GMO and/or Pesticide-Crops). If 99.4% of U.S. food crops are Non-Organic and have Pesticide Residues, where is Trader Joe's buying all of "his" verbal-contract "Non-GMO, Non-Pesticide" products from? But it is "all-natural"? Quoting one of Joe's Managers, "All of our name brand products are All-Naturally-Sourced". Meaningless, brainwash hubris. Food and products that contain or often contain soy:

From draxe.com: Avoid soy. We’ve all come to think of soy as a healthy alternative for protein and calcium. In fact, as a subsidized crop, soy has become so prevalent in so many foods that allergies are on the rise. It hides on labels as hydrolyzed vegetable protein, lecithin, starch and vegetable oil. Soy is a source of phytoestrogens. Because we are exposed to it so much in all of our foods (and health and beauty products), it’s becoming an endocrine disruptor (fermented soy has less detriments and more nutrients).
Natural: Food labeled "natural," according to the USDA definition, does not contain artificial ingredients or preservatives and the ingredients are only minimally processed. However, they may contain antibiotics, growth hormones, and other similar chemicals. Regulations are fairly lenient for foods labeled "natural." Trader Joe's employees verbally said their private label foods are "all-naturally sourced". This ambiguous response to a direct question (are the foods GMO and do they have pesticide residues) is, at this time, their only stonewalled response. They verbally implied that Trader Joe's have a "monopoly" on the 0.6% Non-GMO, Non-Pesticide crops grown in the U.S.A. Some of the main "ingredients" of our human diet impacted by pesticides are: Corn, Cotton, Barley, Wheat, Soybeans, Sorghum, Oats, Peanuts, Potatoes, Beets, Tobacco, Sunflowers, Rice and Forages (Alfalfa). We are the bio-accumulators. No washing method is 100% effective for removing all pesticide residues. Many pesticides (Glyphosate AND 2,4-D to name two) are systemic, they absorb into plants. Fruit and vegetables have pores - dish soap or bleach can get trapped or absorbed by the pores and become difficult to rinse off the fruit once they have been applied.from: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3945755/
Celiac disease, and, more generally, gluten intolerance, is a growing problem worldwide, but especially in North America and Europe, where an estimated 5% of the population now suffers from it. Symptoms include nausea, diarrhea, skin rashes, macrocytic anemia and depression. It is a multifactorial disease associated with numerous nutritional deficiencies as well as reproductive issues and increased risk to thyroid disease, kidney failure and cancer. Here, we propose that glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide, Roundup®, is the most important causal factor in this epidemic. Fish exposed to glyphosate develop digestive problems that are reminiscent of celiac disease. Celiac disease is associated with imbalances in gut bacteria that can be fully explained by the known effects of glyphosate on gut bacteria. Characteristics of celiac disease point to impairment in many cytochrome P450 enzymes, which are involved with detoxifying environmental toxins, activating vitamin D3, catabolizing vitamin A, and maintaining bile acid production and sulfate supplies to the gut. Glyphosate is known to inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes. Deficiencies in iron, cobalt, molybdenum, copper and other rare metals associated with celiac disease can be attributed to glyphosate's strong ability to chelate these elements. Deficiencies in tryptophan, tyrosine, methionine and selenomethionine associated with celiac disease match glyphosate's known depletion of these amino acids. Celiac disease patients have an increased risk to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which has also been implicated in glyphosate exposure. Reproductive issues associated with celiac disease, such as infertility, miscarriages, and birth defects, can also be explained by glyphosate. Glyphosate residues in wheat and other crops are likely increasing recently due to the growing practice of crop desiccation just prior to the harvest. We argue that the practice of “ripening” sugar cane with glyphosate may explain the recent surge in kidney failure among agricultural workers in Central America. We conclude with a plea to governments to reconsider policies regarding the safety of glyphosate residues in foods.

Most common GMO foods / food additives (translate that as pesticide-company-inventions) info from: cornucopia.org
1. Soy
Up to 90% of soybeans in the market have been genetically modified to be naturally resistant to an herbicide called, Round Up. This increased resistance to the herbicide allows farmers to use more Round Up to kill weeds. However, this results not only in a genetically modified food product, but also a food product loaded with more chemicals.
2. Corn
Half of the US farms growing corn to sell to the conglomerate, Monsanto, are growing GMO corn. Most of this corn is going to be used for human consumption. Genetically modified corn has been linked to health problems, including weight gain and organ disruption.
3. Canola oil
Canola oil is derived from rapeseed oil. It is considered one of the most chemically altered oils sold in the US.
4. Cotton
Even cotton has been genetically modified to increase yield and resistance to disease. Most concern relates to the cotton oil. Cotton originating from India, and China, in particular, is considered higher risk for personal health.
5. Milk
One fifth of the dairy cows in the United States have been given growth hormones to help them grow faster and increase their yield. These hormones can be found in some of the milk produced by these cows. These growth hormones have been shown to act inside the human body.
6. Sugar
Genetically modified sugar beets were introduced to the US market in 2009. These sugar beets are modified to resist Roundup, like corn.
7. Aspartame
Aspartame is an artificial sweetener used instead of sugar by many people. There is some question concerning the the safety of aspartame in the body, including its possible link to certain cancers. Aspartame is manufactured from genetically modified bacteria.
8. Zucchini
Genetically modified zucchini contains a toxic protein that helps make it more resistant to insects. This introduced insecticide, has recently been found in human blood, including that of pregnant women and fetuses. This indicates that some of the insecticide is making its way into our bodies rather than being broken down and excreted.
9. Yellow squash
Yellow squash has also been modified with the toxic proteins to make it insect resistant. This plant is very similar to zucchini, and both have also been modified to resist viruses.
10. Papaya
Genetically modified papaya trees have been grown in Hawaii since 1999. These Papayas are sold in the United States and Canada for human consumption. These papayas have been modified to be naturally resistant to Papaya Ringspot virus, and also to delay the maturity of the fruit. Delaying maturity gives suppliers more time to ship the fruit to supermarkets.
Additional Glyphosate-Contaminated Foods (Not Limited To Trader Joe's)
From wikipedia:Theodor Paul "Theo" Albrecht (28 March 1922 – 24 July 2010) was a German entrepreneur, who in 2010 was ranked by Forbes as the 31st richest person in the world, with a net worth of $16.7 billion. He owned and was the CEO of the Aldi Nord discount supermarket chain. In the US he owned the Trader Joe's specialty grocery store chain. His brother Karl Albrecht owned the Aldi Süd discount supermarket chain. The two chains originally were a single family enterprise until a friendly division of assets in 1960. Aldi Süd operates the Aldi groceries in the United States. Aldi and Trader Joe's, while owned by the brothers, have separate and distinct ownership and operations.
Aldi (stylised as ALDI) is the common brand of two discount supermarket chains with over 10,000 stores in 20 countries, and an estimated combined turnover of more than €50 billion. Based in Germany, the chain was founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht in 1946 when they took over their mother's store in Essen, which had been in operation since 1913. The business was split into two separate groups in 1960, that later became Aldi Nord, headquartered in Essen, and Aldi Süd, headquartered in Mülheim. In 1962, they introduced the name Aldi (a syllabic abbreviation for Albrecht Diskont), which is pronounced [ˈaldiː]. In Germany, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have been financially and legally separate since 1966, although both divisions' names may appear (as if they were a single enterprise) with certain store brands or when negotiating with contractor companies. The formal business name is Aldi Einkauf GmbH & Compagnie, oHG.
Aldi's German operations consist of Aldi Nord's 35 individual regional companies with about 2,500 stores in western, northern, and Eastern Germany, and Aldi Süd's 32 regional companies with 1,600 stores in western and southern Germany. Internationally, Aldi Nord operates in Denmark, France, the Benelux countries, Portugal, Spain and Poland, while Aldi Süd operates in Ireland, Great Britain, Hungary, Switzerland, Australia, China, Italy, Austria and Slovenia (Aldi Süd operates as Hofer within the latter two countries). Both Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd also operate in the United States with 1,600 stores as of 2017.Additional Food Pesticide Residue Videos Back to Top

Editor’s Note: The snip directly below was not added randomly. Rather this woman’s encounter with shaming, bullying, psychopathic “Trader Joe’s employees” is so much more common than one might think.
Aside from waffling, obfuscating and bending the truth... ...Quote: "Past 3-5 years some of the Trader Joe’s stores in California have become ‘frat houses’ where staff conduct is morally and ethically unacceptable particularly towards petite, single female senior citizens. Insulting and demeaning experience yesterday at 9:10 am in La Canada. Three employees were standing around behind the first register when one, a tall male with long scruffy dreadlocks, waved and pointed both of his index fingers towards the other two in a ‘shoot to kill’ manner. As I was leaving the adjacent checkout register, he turned and ‘shot’ at me. Repeatedly, while smiling. A loyal customer of TJ's throughout Calif. since the early 1990s my grocery budget is now 100% elsewhere". End Quote. Quotation from: Consumer affairs Website, March 5, 2018.

from yelp, Trader Joe's 297 San Gabriel & Huntington Dr. -- Frathouse Hazing
There are two very petite brunette millennial women who "stock shelves" (Frathouse Haze). They purposely push an overloaded-with-boxes cart between me and the product I was about to pick up off of the shelves. On at least 3 occasions, they and their cart were placed dead center so that I am unable to reach said products. As I approach, they turn their backs and pretend they don't see me behind them. If I say excuse me, they raise their voices, saying, "here, do you mean here, or here". Both of them use the word "here" repeatedly while edging me away from the shelves. The third time they did this, one of the women stepped on my foot, on purpose. She turned, looked at my foot, and brought her foot down on top of my foot. I did not ever see them actually stock anything onto the store shelves, their sole purpose in Trader Joe's appeared to be customer intimidation via cart-blockade...
The same day my foot was stepped on by one of the two petite brunettes, the curly haired, small, young male produce-man followed me down the produce aisle with his produce cart. The produce-man made eye-contact, and engaged in a bout of contrived "sneezing"; producing one fake sneeze upon another. Prior to my walking by, no sneezing; after I passed, no sneezing. But for as long as he could keep pace with me, he kept pretending to sneeze abnormally loudly.
Asking TJ's Corporate Management for a 'safe' shopping experience results in extra hazing.

From Yelp.com:
4/5/2017
If I could give 0-stars I would.
My parents recently shopped at the Trader Joe's on Tustin St in Orange, CA and purchased bread that was visibly moldy internally (but looked decent externally). My mom unknowingly took a bite after purchase and was repulsed when she flipped it over and saw mold.
However, when my parents went back to the location, no apology was made. Perhaps there's some discrimination since my parents speak limited English, but I find this unacceptable for an establishment that prides themselves on quality.
The location's manager only offered to apologize when my parents started taking pictures of the bread. Only then did they offer a refund for the bread as well. Being bullied for a lack of English mastery is appalling for a company with the values TJ's promotes. Being bullied for something that wasn't my parents fault on top of that is worse.
My parents are generally very accommodating and forgiving. If the manager had just apologized from the get go and made some promise about the employees paying closer attention next time, I'm sure I wouldn't be making this review.
I don't think any of the workers my parents spoke to would appreciate injesting mold with bread from a company you thought you could trust, but to give my parents attitude on top of the physical harm and wasted time is absolutely unacceptable and shows this store's disregard for quality management. I hope they can fix this moving forward, discrimination and negative attitudes are a terrible way to conduct a business.
Moldy bread sold and not really apologized for by this location

Details: Pizza Parlano, I'm a wheelchair user because of several disabilities! On May 19th, 2018 I purchased Pizza Parlano from this locale at Citipoint Mall in downtown Brooklyn! I threw up 5 times until there was nothing left in my stomach & then I was dry heaving. I continued to be ill & went to a storefront urgent care facility twice but eventually wound up having to go to the emergency room at a nearby hospital because I was still so sick. I was sill ailing for another week and a half. Ad soon as I read able still having the box from aforementioned product, I went to the TJ's store with the box in hand and reported my experience to a manager behind the manager's podium. He filled out a complaint form after I showed him the receipt as proof of my purchase (which I still possess)he took the box from me assuring me that the correct department would contact me. I had enough presence to ask for the receipt back which he handed to me. Instead of hearing from Trader Joe's corporate office in California, the vendor of this product has sent me 2 emails claiming nobody had previously complained about this frozen pizza! They're correspondence to me was dismissive & inappropriate in essence calling me a liar claiming that the Trader Joe's quality assurance department couldn't follow up my claim because they couldn't locate some product code from the Pizza box when I gave it to a manager from the store where I purchased this pizza. This is a shabby response to a loyal customer who has spent hundreds of dollars with their establishment!

It had been sitting in my refrigerator for about a week, but the expiration date on the bottom says not until 06/06/18. I've eaten one of these every other week or so and I noticed that the plastic seal under the cap was much more easily removed this time around, but still otherwise appeared attached all around when I removed it. It led to vomiting and diarrhea through the night starting a few hours later and into the morning. I also had some Trader Joe's Pita Chips with sea salt and had had a beer earlier in the evening. By about 11:30am the following morning I could keep fluids down again without vomiting, but light diarrhea continues into the afternoon.
