I always find it fascinating to note which countries are among the top 30 visitors to educate-yourself.org. The idea that people from 169 different countries even find their way
to this web site is still utterly remarkable to me, as I had assumed that only English speaking countries would be the primary candidates among non American visitors, but my assumptions are turned upside down when I see countries from the Russian Federation, or Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Brazil, Greece, Japan, Mexico, or Argentina among the top 30 visiting countries. Holy Cow!
What's going on?
When I started to see the Russian Federation show up in the top 30 list some months ago, I just assumed it was mostly intel or military people downloading articles, but then I start to get e-mail from Russian readers and I asked myself: Is it possible that ordinary citizens living in Russia or the Ukraine are reading stuff posted to this web site? How many average citizens can speak and read English is these countries? I don't have to tell you that, other than a little bit of Spanish, most Americans can't utter 10 words in a foreign language, let alone read and understand web sites posted in a language other than English.
I was convinced by a German correspondent a couple of years ago that English is widely understood in Germany, so I could understand Germany being among the top 30, but Romaina? Bulgaria? The Ukraine?
Croatia?
Perhaps the world is much more cosmopolitan than I had imagined. I guess it will have to remian a mystery for a time-or at least until I receive more e-mail from people living in those countries to know who is actually reading this site.
Interesting, all the same, to exchange thoughts with so many different people in such far flung corners of the world. The Internet is an amazing thing
