To Ken Adachi,
re Depleted Uranium (use overseas by U.S. military)
Dear Ken,
I enjoyed reading your take on this (travesty) - and I think, you missed something: How much of a benefit to the Bush Admin is/was it to ship DU overseas - so that we do not have to deal with it at home??
As a govt geologist (now retired), I worked on projects having to do with permanent, safe, etc storage of radioactive materials - the stuff left over that is not (yet) useable. And, from my view, that goal is/was not being addressed in an honest manner, with an ultimate safe solution in mind.
So here are some questions re the State-side occurrence of DU:
1. How much is there?
2. Where is it stored?
3. Who/what companies processed the DU into useable items (armor, bullets)
4. How much did we ship to Iraq (pounds?, tons?, percentage of our supply?
5. How much DU has been shipped to other countries?
Thanks for getting the word out on important issues.
