Hello,
Can you please tell me if ozone air purifiers are safe. I have an ionizer air
purifier that creates ozone as a byproduct. I can smell the ozone in the air and if
I leave it on too long it makes my lungs feel weird and the next day I feel
lightheaded. I couldn't find any info on your website about ozone air purifiers.
Thanks, Robert Laven

Hello Robert,
This is my opinion.
I have no problem with ozone air purifiers, but if you can turn down the concentration of the ozone or run it for shorter periods, you will likely have less of a reaction. Lung tissue is sensitive to the oxidizing action of ozone, but that doesn't mean that it's necessarily harming you. Ozone can be very beneficial to the body- even if you breathe it, but the concentration MUST be very, very low to avoid oxidizing the lungs too much.
The light headedness is likely due to a cleansing reaction, also called a Herxheimer reaction. The ozone is oxidizing pathogens or toxins in the body and the waste products go into the blood stream and until it's eliminated, you feel light headed. At least that's what makes sense to me.
