Hi Ken,
my fiancee and I are looking to move into our ideal house in the
countryside but there is one problem - there are huge power pylons not far from the
house within 100 metres. I think I already know the answer to this but would
appreciate your help and thoughts on whether we should move in or not. Also what
would you consider as a safe distance from these monstrosities?
Many thanks and keep up the excellent work on your website,
Steve

Hi Steve,
You don't want to move there.
100 meters = 300 feet. Depending on the voltage involved, the field could easily radiate to a distance of 300 feet.
You can take a 4 foot fluorescent tube and go to that location at night. Stand under the power lines and you will be surprised to see that the TUBE LIGHTS UP.
Keep on walking away from the power lines and see how far you go until the tube goes out. That doesn't mean that the EMF field ends there, it only means that the magnetic-electro coupling is insufficient to light the tube which takes a few thousand volts to light up.
Forget it. 300 feet is way too close.
5,000 feet or more is reasonable for a safe distance.
