Please call your senator and put a stop to this legislation..If passed parents will NO LONGER have decision making rights for their OWN disabled Children..

The United Nations' Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is going now to the full Senate. There is currently no indication of when a floor vote will be scheduled, though Chairman John Kerry offered, "I hope we will get [this] to the floor very, very soon."

If passed -- The UNITED NATIONS will have the power to make all decisions for all Disabled children; parents will no longer have this right !

If passed, the United Nations will have decision making powers over disabled children, not parents or legal guardians. This treaty poses a serious threat both to parental rights and to U.S. sovereignty, as the UNCRC dictates not only that the federal government must intrude into the family sphere to an unprecedented degree, but also how the federal government is to monitor and govern the actions of our families.? Parental rights would be replaced by "the best interests of the child" as defined, ultimately, by an international committee of 18 people in Switzerland.

It sounds like a good idea when you read about it on the UNICEF web page http://www.unicef.org/crc/ -- and it may be a good thing for kids who are orphans or in third world countries where kids live in countries where basically the disabled and kids in general have no rights, etc..

But in the United States where disabled kids have rights, this legislation make no sense at all.I know, this may sound crazy.. I'm not making this stuff up !

But that is what this legislation has the power to do.. Please call even if youv child is healthy and not disabled, not all of us are this lucky to have healthy kids. Plus, if they pass this for disabled kids, the next step will probably be passing it for all kids!

CRPD Passes, Moves to Senate Floor -- full vote to be held SOON!!

This morning the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted by a 13-6 margin to send the United Nations? Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) to the full Senate. There is currently no indication of when a floor vote will be scheduled, though Chairman John Kerry offered, "I hope we will get [this] to the floor very, very soon."

ParentalRights.org opposes this treaty because it poses a threat to the traditional role of parents in the upbringing of their children with special needs, and because it sets the dangerous precedent of expressing social, economic, and cultural entitlements as legal rights and obligations.

Senators who stood with us to oppose ratification of this treaty include: Senator Corker of Tennessee, Senator Risch of Idaho, Senator Lee of Utah, Senator Rubio of Florida, Senator DeMint of South Carolina, and Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma.

All ten Democrats and three Republican senators Senators Richard Lugar (IL), John Barrasso (WY), and Johnny Isakson (GA) voted in favor of the treaty.

Today's discussion emphasized the intent of the Committee that ratification of the treaty should create no new obligations or laws in the United States , which is good news for us. But it then raises the question: If the treaty is to have no effect, why should we ratify it? And why should other nations of the world take our ratification seriously when it is accompanied by the understanding that we will take no action to apply it in our country?

Article 7 of the UNCRPD gives government the ability to override every decision of a parent of disabled children if the government thinks that its views are in "the best interest of the child."

This is a radical attempt to take away parental rights. Make no mistake, if they succeed at ratifying this treaty, the Convention on the Rights of the Child is next. This is not a battle just for parents with disabled and special needs children. This is a battle for every parent.
