Not only is this happening under Fiji, but earthquakes of 400 to 600 kilometers deep are also occuring ng in Indonesia, the Philippines, South America, Kamchatka, Tajikistan and Japan. For the most part these quakes do not cause much damage because the type of wave generated is called a P-wave, which moves the crust up and down like a drumhead. P-waves could generate tsunamis, but even at M7.0 [Magnitude 7.0] no tsunamis have been caused by deep earthquakes. The strong 10 kilometer deep M7.5 quake in Sulawesi, Indonesia on September 28, 2018 was a shallow quake generating S-waves (surface waves) which
created a tsunami, drowning thousands. The asteroid impact in the Gulf of Mexico
