Over the past six months there have been fracking earthquakes in northern Italy in the area just south of the Po River Valley, the Emilia-Romagna region. This area is not as seismically active as the Friuli Alps or south of Naples, but large
earthquakes could be triggered here.
There have been as many as ten small nukes exploded at ten kilometres depth and hydraulic fracking at five kilometres. Earthquakes up to M5.0 have occurred. Larger earthquakes could do serious damage from Milan to Ravenna, but the greater damage would be a blow out of natural gas and petroleum similar to what has happened in the Gulf of Mexico. The soils would be poisoned for decades. The Po River follows a natural fault and is a thin point in the Earth's crust. The amount of hydrocarbons under the Po Valley is enormous. Greed is driving the Italian oil companies and government to develop this field, but the damage to the environment will be great. It would be better to not frack here.
There was a nuclear fracking explosion in the Irish Sea between Anglesey and Dublin. There have been numerous explosions in the Aegean Sea and south of Crete. There are huge reserves under the Aegean, enough to pollute the whole Mediterranean.
New Zealand has suffered from the rush to get deep oil. Wellington just had a M6.9 earthquake.
Australia announced it has 20 trillion Australian dollars of oil in development from its exploration in Western Australia and Victoria States. There have been many explosion off the coasts and deep under ground. As there is little water in the western deserts the breaking of the impermeable stratifications has been done by brute force. Western Australia could become a lake of oil.
Oklahoma could have a blow out too. High rates of hydraulic fracking east of Oklahoma City at five kilometres depth have generated many small quakes. There are huge reserves under this area. The blow out could be substantial.
