On IRIS Seismic Monitor, the Atomic Bomb Test of May 25 2009 at 00:54:43 Zulu was on the surface not underground as reported. The reading of 4.7 on the Richter scale is in the megaton yield range not the kiloton range as reported on the news.

The coordinates Latitude 41.33 North and Longitude 129.01 East places the explosion in the Hamgyong-Sanmack Mountains of North-eastern North Korea. The town of Hapsu may be gone.

A bomb in the megaton range. This is not a North Korean bomb.

The mushroom cloud would have been huge. Fallout will cover Japan.

This is a deliberate attempt to create a war involving most of Asia.

The first bomb North Korea was supposed to have detonated destroyed a train station and small town [Ryongchon, N. Korea] near the Chinese border a few years ago. Some internet articles broached the possibility that the explosion was caused by a Tomahawk cruise missile. This is a type of tactical nuke called a bunker buster used in Baghdad and in the mountains of Afghanistan.

Iran has sent six ships into international waters, the Gulf of Aden.

Something is happening, a trap is being set.

Pyongyang, NORTH KOREA (BNO NEWS) — Unusual earthquake activity was reported in North Korea’s nuclear test area on Monday morning, the United States Geological Survey reported. The agency said the earthquake, which happened at 9.55 a.m. local time, had a preliminary magnitude of 4.7.

It struck about 45 miles from the town of Kimchaek, which is located in northern North Korea. A spokeswoman for the United States Geological Survey told BNO News that the epicenter of the earthquake was located about 5 miles west from the location of a controversial nuclear test on October 9, 2006, but the exact location was still subject to change. It struck about 6.2 miles deep, showing additional similarities to the detonation of the nuclear device in 2006.

Earthquakes in North Korea are rare and the spokeswoman said there has been nearly no activity in the last 30 years. She said the last recorded seismic activity in the area was in 2006, generated by the nuclear test. Another event was in 2002, but this earthquake struck dozens of miles away from the test area.

Further details were not immediately available, and there were no reports of any events at the nuclear test site.

Seoul, May 25 (DPA) North Korea said Monday it “successfully” conducted a nuclear test and also appeared to have fired a short-range missile, following up on earlier threats issued after the UN Security Council criticised a rocket launch by the Stalinist state.
“According to the demand of our scientists and technicians, our republic has successfully conducted another underground nuclear test on May 25… as part of measures to strengthen its nuclear power in self-defence,” the state-run Korean Central News Agency said.

“The current nuclear test was safely conducted on a new higher level in terms of its explosive power and technology of its control and the results of the test helped satisfactorily settle the scientific and technological problems arising in further increasing the power of nuclear weapons and steadily developing nuclear technology,” the statement said, but did not give any details about the test or its location.

A South Korean official, quoted by the Yonhap news agency, said earlier South Korea had detected artificial tremors around 0054 GMT, which were indications of a nuclear test.

“An artificial earthquake was detected at 9:54 a.m. this (Monday) morning near Poongkye-ri in North Hamkyong Province,” Lee Dong-kwan, a spokesman for the South Korean president’s office, was quoted as saying by the Yonhap news agency.

Seoul’s weather agency said the test was conducted about 10 to 15 km from the location of Pyongyang’s first nuclear test in October 2006, which met with widespread condemnation from the international community.

The quake’s magnitude was 4.5 on the Richter scale, the defence ministry said. The US Geological Survey also confirmed the quake’s location 380 km north-east of Pyongyang and approximate magnitude at 4.7.

In addition to the nuclear test, the communist state apparently also test-fired a short-range ballistic missile with a range of 130 km on its east coast, Yonhap reported, quoting a South Korean source.

The US State Department in Washington remained cautious, telling DPA that it was looking into the reports.

“We are gravely concerned by North Korea’s claims,” a US State Department official said. “We are analysing the data. The US Geological Survey confirmed that a seismic event took place consistent with a test. We are consulting with our six-party and UN Security Council partners on next steps,” the official said, referring to international talks aimed at halting North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme.

The Security Council censored North Korea’s April 5 rocket launch, which was widely regarded as a cover for a ballistic missile test.

South Korean President Lee Myung Bak ordered an emergency meeting of the country’s National Security Council. The country put its troops on heightened alert.

In reaction to the test, Japan said it planned to request an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

“If the nuclear test is confirmed, it is a clear violation of UN Security Council resolution and Japan will take decisive measures,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura said.

Washington, D.C. (BNO NEWS) – The United States is “gravely concerned” after North Korea said it carried out a nuclear test on Monday morning, a U.S. State Department official told BNO News.

“We are gravely concerned about North Korea’s claims, we are analyzing the data,” a U.S. State Department official told BNO News. “The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed that a seismic event took place consistent with the test. We are consulting with our six-party and U.N. Security Council partners on the next steps,” he added.

The Yonhap news agency also reported that North Korea launched a missile after the test, but the official had no information or comment on the report.

North Korea tests Nuke The South Korean government has called an emergency meeting of its cabinet in response to a nuclear weapons test by neighboring North Korea.

The Japanese government has also established a crisis task force following the test, which the US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded at 9.54am (local time) this morning.

The USGS said it detected a magnitude 4.7 tremor 375 kilometres north-east of Pyongyang, at a depth of 10 kilometres,

Two hours after the explosion was detected North Korea state media confirmed the Stalinist country had successfully conducted a nuclear weapons test, “as part of the measures to bolster up its nuclear deterrent for self-defence.”

South Korea weather agency officials said a tremor was detected around the north-eastern town of Kilju, near where North Korea conducted its first test, in October 2006.

A US State Department spokesman said the Obama administration was not able to confirm “at this time” that a nuclear test had been carried out.

“We are consulting with our allies - once we have established the facts, we will have more to say,” the State Department official said.

A spokesman for Japan’s foreign ministry said it would respond to North Korea’s nuclear test “in a responsible fashion” at the United Nations.

The United States has been involved in negotiations with the two Koreas, China, Japan and Russia aimed at scrapping North Korea’s nuclear program in exchange for energy aid under a landmark six-party agreement signed in 2007.

The negotiations deadlocked over a dispute with North Korea over how to verify disarmament, before taking a sharp turn for the worse after North Korea conducted a long-range rocket launch test on April 5, this year.
